Clock Spring Inspection [Two-Step Deployment Control System]

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION ).
  2. Remove the following parts:
    1. Driver-side air bag module (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] ). (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] ).
    2. Steering wheel (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ). (3) Column cover (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  3. Disconnect the clock spring connector. (See CLOCK SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] ).
  4. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector. (with adaptive front lighting system (AFS)) (See STEERING ANGLE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  5. Verify that the continuity is as indicated in the table.
NOTE:
  • When the vehicle-side connector for the clock spring is disconnected, terminals 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D are shorted to prevent unexpected operation (deployment) of the air bag module.
