Curtain Air Bag Module Removal/Installation (Two-Step Deployment Control System): Notes

WARNING:

Handling the curtain air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Switch the ignition to off.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
Partially peel back the seaming welts.
Remove the following parts:
1. Sunroof seaming welt (with sunroof system) (See SUNROOF UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
2. A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
3. Sunvisor (See SUNVISOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
4. Front map light (See FRONT MAP LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
5. Assist handle (See ASSIST HANDLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
6. Selector lever knob (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
7. Shift panel (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
8. Console side panel (See CONSOLE SIDE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)

21. Adjust anchor cover on the front seat belt (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
22. Upper anchor installation bolt on the front seat belt (See FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
23. B-pillar upper trim (See B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
24. Trunk covering (See TRUNK COVERING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
25. Trunk board (See TRUNK BOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
26. Trunk side pocket (See TRUNK SIDE POCKET REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)

32. Upper anchor installation bolt on the second-row seat belt (See SECOND-ROW SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)

34. Headliner (See HEADLINER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Using a Flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.

Disconnect the curtain air bag module connector.
Remove the clip. (See CLIP REMOVAL NOTE .)

Remove bolts A.
Remove bolt B.
Remove bolt C.
Remove guide A from the body.

Move guide B in the order of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure and remove it from the body.
Move guide C in the order of arrows (1) and (2) shown in the figure and remove it from the body.
Remove the curtain air bag module.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
- If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the onboard diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)] .)
