Driver-Side Air Bag Module Installation (Two-Step Deployment Control System - Us/CANADA Spec.)

WARNING:

Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the driver-side air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA SPEC.) .) Due to the adoption of 2-step deployment control in the driver-side air bag module, depending on the impact force, it is possible that inflator No. 2 might not deploy. In such cases, before disposing of the air bag module, make sure to follow the inflator deployment procedures and verify complete deployment of inflators No. 1 and 2.

Point the upper side of the driver-side air bag module towards the steering wheel as shown in the figure below.

Connect the horn switch connector.
Connect the driver-side air bag module connectors and press in the locking device.
Move the driver-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow below.

Rotate the driver-side air bag module clockwise 180 degrees.

Lift the driver-side air bag module wiring harness in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure below.

Align the driver-side air bag module pins with the steering wheel holes.

Press the driver-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure above and attach the pins.
CAUTION:
- If the driver-side air bag module is installed with the wiring harness contacting the driver-side air bag module pins, the wiring harness may be damaged. Carefully install the driver-side air bag module while verifying that the wiring harness does not contact the pins.
Verify that the driver-side air bag module is securely installed.
Connectthe negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
- If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA SPEC.)] .)
