SERVICE INFORMATION
As of 08/94, a new PSE control module (A37, A37/1), along with new style pneumatic connectors and new distribution manifolds, was installed in production. The new control module is designed to accommodate many different equipment levels, thereby eliminating the need for multiple versions of the module. Only the new version PSE control module will be stocked at the PDC's. The new version control module can be installed, in vehicles manufactured prior to 08/94.
PROCEDURE
- Remove rear seat cushion (SMS, Job no. 91-170/171/172/173) and expose the PSE control module.
- Remove all pneumatic lines from the pneumatic multiple connector using a 7 mm open end wrench. Cut away the plastic end connector from each pneumatic line. The following color coded pneumatic lines are attached to the PSE control module:
- Six yellow lines for the central locking (CL) system.
- Two red lines for backup assist (BA).
- One black line for the retractable trunk lid grip (RTG).
- One clear line (may appear close to white in color) for manifold vacuum assist (MVA).
- Three grey lines for the orthopedic seat backrest (OSB).
- Two white lines for the retractable rear head restraints (RHR).
- Install new PSE control module. See Fig 2 .
- Connect approximately 12" of pneumatic line to one of the sockets. See Fig 3 .
- Attach the other end of the pneumatic line to the large, end connector on a six-way distributor. Connect the six yellow CL pneumatic lines to connections A - F on the six-way distributor. See Fig 4 . Attach socket and pneumatic line (from previous step) to connection "ZV" on PSE control module. Secure six-way distributor to control module by sliding the two rings (arrows, Fig. Fig 4 ) of the distributor over the two plastic split pins (arrows, Fig. Fig 2 ) on the control module.
- Connect the two red BA pneumatic lines to connections A - B on a two-way distributor. See Fig 5 . Attach two-way distributor to connection "RH" on PSE control module.
- Connect the black RTG pneumatic line to a socket (Fig. Fig 3 ) and attach socket to connection "SFG" on PSE control module.
- Connect the clear MVA pneumatic line to a socket (Fig. Fig 3 ) and attach socket to connection "P-" or "Pu" on PSE control module.
- VEHICLES WITHOUT RHR Install a rubber cap over connection "FKS"on PSE control module. VEHICLES WITH RHR Connect two white RHR pneumatic lines to connections A - B on a two-way distributor. See Fig 5 . Attach two-way distributor to connection "FKS" on PSE control module.
- VEHICLES WITHOUT OSB Install a rubber cap over connection "Pu" or "P+" on PSE control module. VEHICLES WITH OSB Connect approximately 12" of pneumatic line to a socket. Attach the other end of the pneumatic line to the large, end connector on a six-way distributor. See Fig 4 . Connect the three grey OSB pneumatic lines to connections A - C on the six-way distributor. Install rubber caps over connections D - F on the distributor. Attach socket and pneumatic line to connection "Pu" or "P+" on PSE control module.
Secure six-way distributor to control module by sliding the two rings (arrows, Fig. Fig 4 ) of the distributor over the two plastic split pins (arrows, Fig. Fig 2 ) on the control module.
