Task

To regulate the start quantity in relation to the operating condition and independent of the position of the accelerator pedal.

Function

The IRI/DFI [ERE/EVE] crankshaft position sensor (L5/6) detects the position of the crankshaft and the engine speed and sends this data to the IFI [ERE] control module (N3/7). In addition, a signal to prepare the required start quantity is sent via the coolant temperature sensor (B11/4) to the IFI [ERE] control module (N3/7), which, with feedback from the fuel rack position sensor (Y23/1 1), forwards the signal to the fuel quantity actuator (Y23/1).

After the engine has started and at an engine speed of >600 rpm, the start quantity control does not operate.

The start quantity is controlled up to an engine speed of 600 rpm by the start quantity control independently of the accelerator pedal position.

Only after the engine speed exceeds 600 rpm (dependent on coolant temperature) can it be controlled using the accelerator pedal.

The higher the coolant temperature the lower the start quantity released by the IFI [ERE] control module (N3/7).

Emergency start, only model 202 to 11/94

If the IFI [ERE] control module (N3/7) receives an error message from the IFI/DFI [ERE/EVE] crankshaft position sensor (L5/6), a speed signal from the starter ring gear speed sensor (L3) will be needed for the next start.
