When a button is pressed on the remote control key a radio frequency (RF) signal is transmitted first followed by an infrared (IR) signal. The signal contains a code for checking the authorization and an instruction to execute a function.
The radio frequency signal has a greater range ; the IR signal is less sensitive to interference . However, for IR reception the remote control key must be pointed at one of the IR receivers next to the door handle.
