Testing Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320, 2002 Mercedes-Benz E320, 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK320, 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML320, and 2001 Mercedes-Benz E320. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Actuation - Connect DVOM between ME-SFI control module connector "B" terminal No. 2 (socket box terminal No. 10) and ME-SFI control module connector "A" terminal No. 2 (socket box terminal No. 2). Start engine and idle. Allow engine to idle for at least 2 minutes after engine coolant temperature reaches more than 176°F (80°C). Voltage should be 11-14 volts (voltage may fluctuate). If voltage is within specification, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, possible causes are wiring harness failure, O2 sensor (G3/5) failure or defective ME-SFI control module (N3/10).
- Current Consumption - Turn ignition off. Disconnect ME-SFI control module connector "B". Connect ammeter between ME-SFI control module connector "A" terminal No. 3 (socket box terminal No. 3) and ME-SFI control module connector "B" terminal No. 2 (socket box terminal No. 10). Turn ignition on. Ammeter should indicate 1-4.5 amps. If amperage is within specification, test is complete. If amperage is not within specification, possible causes are wiring harness failure, O2 sensor (G3/5) failure or defective ME-SFI control module (N3/10). Repair as necessary.
