Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Adaption

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320, 2002 Mercedes-Benz E320, 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK320, 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML320, and 2001 Mercedes-Benz E320. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

After replacing an ME-SFI control module, Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor, starter ring gear or motor mount, sensor adaptation must be performed. Run engine until coolant temperature is more than 158°F (70°C). Drive vehicle. With gear selector in position 3, increase engine speed to approximately 2100 RPM, then hold a 50 percent engine load for approximately 30 seconds. Using scan tool, verify VSS adaptation has occurred.
