Navigation mode, function - GF82.85-P-2012TU

MODEL 211.0 /2 up to 30.6.06 with CODE (528) HIGH Class USA

Navigation system

Using the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) the location of the vehicle, the direction and the distance to the destination (after entering the destination) are determined by the navigation processor (N41/1). Then the required measures for reaching the destination are started (navigation).

Once the navigation system has been activated by opening the driver door (in the background), it is immediately operational after initialization via the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

A multistandard disk drive (can read various data formats) for reading the digital map data is integrated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

After the "NAV" button is pressed the note "please load Navi CD" appears in the Navi CD screen.

Destination entry

The destination is entered menu-assisted via the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and is processed by the navigation processor (N41/1). The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) offers in navigation mode the following alternatives for destination entry:

Predictive text input

When the destination data is entered the next possible letters are displayed and the letter in question can then be incorporated in the destination entry as well

Dynamic supplementation

This function is realized with the manual entry of the destination. While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The supplemented characters have a black background. Deleting can be accomplished character by character. The following submenus are displayed in the "Special destinations" menu:

These submenus are subdivided still further. The search radius is approx. 20 km, however special categories (e.g. airports) have a larger search (approx. 80 km).

Position finding

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continually calculates the location of the vehicle with the aid of the following methods:

The navigation processor (N41/1) calculates the most likely position by constantly comparing the location results of these three methods.

Route calculation

The route is calculated in the navigation processor (N41/1) after destination input or automatically after a deviation from the proposed route.

Voice output

The voice output is effective for:

There are further voice messages about the start and destination of the route.

Voice control system

Voice control can take place by means of letters or complete word input. Navigation starts once the navigation processor (N41/1) has carried out the route calculation. Three forms of destination-finding system display are available:

The map presentation is always controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The system supports the following functions:

It is possible to change arbitrarily between the types of presentation. The destination-finding system is also supported by voice output from the vehicle loudspeakers.
