Automatic Transmission (AT), Selector Lever Positions (Transmission 722.6 In Model 211 Except 211.076/05/25/276 As Of 01/09/03 Except Code (428a) Steering Wheel Shift Buttons)
The selector lever can be moved into 6 different positions. The driver can select 2 different transmission modes using the transmission mode switch (S16/5).
The selector lever positions have the following meanings:
- P
Park Lock And Start Position - R
Reverse Gear - N
Neutral and start position. No power is transmitted. The vehicle is not in gear. - D
All 5 forward gears are available. - +
Touch: upshift by shift range in each case. Press and hold down: change from the current shift range direct to "D". - -
Touch: downshift by one shift range in each case. The selected gear is only engaged at the permitted rotational speed. Press and hold down: The transmission is shifted into a gear from which the vehicle can be accelerated or decelerated (shift range displayed in instrument cluster (A1).
NOTE:
If the shift range is limited, the transmission shifts up gears when the engine speed is close to the engine breakaway speed.
Transmission mode switch programs (S16/5):
- Sport Program "S"
Starting off in first gear for all driving situations. - Comfort Program "C"
Starting off always in 2nd gear (except in first gear range). The maximum speed is not utilized in any one gear.NOTE: When kickdown is operated the upshifts and downshifts take place as in the sport program "S".
