Automatic Transmission, Selector Lever Positions (With Code (428A)) Steering Wheel Shift Buttons

The selector lever can be moved into 6 different positions. The driver can select 3 different transmission modes using the transmission mode switch (S16/5).

The selector lever positions have the following meanings:

  1. P

    Park Lock And Start Position
  2. R

    Reverse Gear
  3. N

    Neutral (no power is transmitted. The vehicle is not in gear).
  4. D

    D all 5 forward gears are available.

Touch Function 

Program "C" or "S":

Transmission Mode Switch Programs (S16/5) 

Sport program "S":

Comfort program "C":

NOTE: When kickdown is operated the upshifts and downshifts take place as in the sport program "S".

Manual program "M":

Program "M":

  1. "+"

    1. Touch

      Upshift by one gear in each case. The selected gear is only engaged at the permitted rotational speed.
    2. Press And Hold Down

      Change from the current shift range direct to "D".
  2. "-"

    1. Touch

      Shift down one gear each time. The selected gear is only engaged at the permitted rotational speed.
    2. Press And Hold Down

      The transmission is shifted into a gear from which the vehicle can be easily accelerated or decelerated (shift range displayed in instrument cluster (A1)).

NOTE: If the shift range is limited, the transmission shifts up gears when the engine speed is close to the engine break away speed.
