Function Of Gear Shift (With Code (428A) Steering Wheel Shift Buttons)

Shift Buttons

On transmission 722.6 the electrohydraulic control unit converts the electric signals going out from the electronic transmission control (EGS) into hydraulic signals.

Faults occurring in the ETC control unit (N15/3) are handled by the limp-home system. The limp-home system is designed so that the driver can reach a Service Operation even under extreme conditions.

Selector lever position "P", "R", "N" and "D" are transmitted by the electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5) on the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C) and in parallel to this by means of a shift rod to the range selector at the transmission end.

Program Selection "M"

The 5 forward gears of transmission 722.6 can either be shifted direct via the left steering wheel gear shifter (S110/2), the right steering wheel gear shifter (S111/2) or via the selector lever.

The shifted gear is displayed in the instrument cluster (A1). The transmission automatically changes into the sport program "S" when the selector lever is shifted out of selector lever position "D".

Shifted processes at unacceptably high or low engine speed are not carried out.

Program Selection "C/S"

The following functions are possible using the selector lever, the left steering wheel gear shifter (S110/2) or right steering wheel gear shifter (S111/2):

In addition a mandatory downshift occurs at too low an engine speed or a mandatory upshift occurs at too high an engine speed.

When the vehicle is stationary the transmission automatically shifts into 1st gear. It is possible to start off both in 1st or 2nd gear.

Reverse gear, park and neutral/start position can only be engaged via the selector lever.

The program selection "M" does not remain stored. Program selection "S" is displayed in the instrument cluster (A1) once the engine is started again.
