Remove/install steering coupling - AR46.10-P-8000T

MODIFICATION NOTES

28.2.07 Self-locking nut, steering joint to rack-and-pinion steering   *BA46.10-P-1002-01E 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
1 Fully extend or pull out adjustable steering column IMPORTANT Necessary to separate the steering coupling (25) from the lower steering shaft (80a).  
2 Deactivate easy entry/exit Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275
NOTES If the vehicle is equipped with the easy entry and exit feature, this will have to be deactivated first Otherwise the driver seat and steering wheel move to a different position when the driver door is opened or closed. The upper frame will be damaged if the retaining device is installed SPECIAL TOOL
IMPORTANT Disabling takes place via the buttons on the steering wheel in the "Comfort" menu of the multifunction display, see owner's manual.
 
3 Turn steering wheel to center position (front wheels in straight-ahead position) SPECIAL TOOL and fix in place with holding device NOTES On a disengaged steering coupling (25) the steering wheel should not be turned because the spiral contact coil will be destroyed.

4.2 Remove engine compartment paneling Vehicles with gasoline engines AR61.20-P-1105T
5 Detach steering coupling (25) from lower steering shaft (80a) by removing bolt (25a) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1001-01E 
6 Pull the lower steering shaft (80a) upward to extract it from the steering coupling (25.) NOTES Do not use force (hammer blows, excessive leverage) as the lower steering shaft (80a) is sensitive to lateral forces.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Insert lower steering shaft (80a) all the way into the steering coupling (25); pay attention to the studs of the steering coupling (25) while doing so and the groove of the lower steering shaft (80a) (arrows).
 
7 Unscrew nut with bolt (25b) from steering coupling (25) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace self-locking nut.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1002-01E 
8 Pull steering coupling (25) carefully off control valve of rack-and-pinion steering (23) NOTES Do not use force (hammer blows, severe leverage) as a predetermined fracture point is located on the control valve. If necessary, expand clamping slot slightly with screwdriver.  
    IMPORTANTInstallation:  Turn rack-and-pinion steering (23) into center position, mount steering coupling (25). AR46.20-P-0600-01P 
9 Pull locking plate (25f) off the steering coupling (25) while lifting the lug using a suitable tool IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace locking plate (25f) with self-locking nut. Push on locking plate (25f) only until the lug engages in the steering coupling (25).  
10 Install in the reverse order
