Steering column module component description - GF54.21-P-6050SX
MODEL 221.0 /1, 216.3 up to Model Year 8
Illustrated on model 221
Location
The steering column module is located on the steering column.
General
The steering column module is connected to the chassis CAN and the steering LIN in order to exchange data.
Communication between the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) and the steering column module takes place over the steering LIN.
Task
The steering column module reads in the following sensors, signals and switches, and controls if necessary, their function and the switch and controls illumination.
Discrete inputs
- Circuit 30
- Circuit 31
- Steering angle sensor (N49)
- Combination switch (S4)
- DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch (S16/13)
- Cruise control push-button switch (S40/4)
- via the steering column adjustment switch (S59) (without code (443) steering wheel heater)
- steering column adjustment/steering wheel heater switch (S59/1) (with code (443) Steering wheel heater)
Inputs over steering LIN
- Left multifunction steering wheel push-button group (S110)
- Right multifunction steering wheel push-button group (S111)
The signals for the following components are not processed by the steering column module, but rather looped through the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45)
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13)
- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)
- Steering wheel heater electronics (A74) (with code (443) steering wheel heater)
Actuation of following function and the switch and controls illumination
- Yellow LED, variable speed limiter (S40/4v1)
- Steering wheel heater function indicator lamp (S59/1e1) (with code (443) Steering wheel heater)
- Switch and controls illumination in the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
- Function illumination of DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch
