General 

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) is the central control for the entertainment and communication systems integrated in the vehicle.

The following subfunctions, which are described in separate documents, are included in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit:

- Volume/tone settings function

- Voice control function, with code (527) COMAND APS (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer

- Audio mode, function

- TV mode function, with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner

- Navigation mode function, with code (527) COMAND APS (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer

- Video mode, function

The displays and menus for the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are generated in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The following applications are displayed on the instrument cluster as well as being displayed on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A1):

- Audio

- Telephone

- TV, with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner Navigation, with code (527) COMAND APS (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit acts as a gateway. It routes signals from the interior CAN to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) components and thus forms the communications interface.

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit communicates with the following control units via MOST:

- TV combination tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1), with code (863) TV tuner digital/analog

- Sound system amplifier (N40/3), with code (810) Sound system

- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3), with code (537) Digital radio

- High-definition tuner control unit (N87/8), with code (517) HD radio

- Media interface control unit (N125/1), with code (518) Media interface
