Location

The headlamp range adjustment control unit is located below the front passenger seat.

Task

The headlamp range adjustment control unit automatically keeps the incline angle of the bundled light from the left front lamp unit (E1) and the right front lamp unit (E2) within the statutory limits, regardless of the vehicle's load state. Headlamp range changes, which are brought about by dynamic changes in vehicle inclination, such as acceleration or deceleration, are also compensated for. The headlamp range adjustment control unit also realizes the curve illumination actuation.

The headlamp range adjustment control unit is a subscriber of the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C) and also exchanges data with the HRA [LWR] power module (E1n3) and the HRA [LWR] power module (E2n3) via a serial interface.

The headlamp range adjustment control unit can be diagnosed and takes over the storing of faults for the headlamp range adjustment (HRA [LWR]).

For vehicles without code (489) AIRmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive damping system ADS) the signals from the front right level sensor (B22/9) and the rear right level sensor (B22/10) are read in discretely by the headlamp range adjustment control unit.
