Data flow chart
Function
With the voice control system (VCS [SBS]) it is possible to operate the audio, navigation and communication components installed in the vehicle.
The voice control system recognizes commands that are spoken together and that are entered independently of the speaker, as well as names specified and trained by the user.
The following functions can be controlled via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]):
- Telephone
- Address book
- Audio components
- TV functions
- Navigation system
- Speaker retraining
- Voice output for dialog guide
- Help features for the user
After activation, playback of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) or of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit installed in the vehicle is automatically muted.
Data transfer is accomplished analog/digital (CAN/MOST). Activation or deactivation takes place by pressing the VCS [SBS] off button or the VCS [SBS] on button. The user is acoustically informed of the activation through an audible beep and of deactivation via a voice output.
Function requirement:
As soon as circuit 15R is "on" and the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is active, all functions are available. The enabled SIM card must be inserted in the portable CTEL in order to operate the telephone.
Voice control and voice output
After activation of the VCS [SBS], it is possible to operate the telephone or the audio system via the hands-free system microphone group using precisely defined voice commands.
The spoken commands are processed in the voice control system control unit and transmitted via the MOST BUS to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
Voice output of the VCS [SBS] takes place over the speaker system. The volume of the announcements can be adjusted with the volume control at the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or with the VCS [SBS] on button and VCS [SBS] off button on the multifunction steering wheel.
In addition to the manual volume setting, a dynamic noise-dependent volume control for voice output of the VCS [SBS] is active. It depends on the magnitude of the ambient noise level in the vehicle and cannot be influenced by the user.
The VCS also contains a priority control, i.e. if collisions occur in the control of individual components in the communication for audio system, functions started by the VCS are discontinued or skipped.
An example of this is:
The navigation system attempts voice output while the VCS is involved in a dialog with the user. As the voice output from the navigation system has the highest priority of all systems, dialogue with the VCS [SBS] is interrupted by the system, the (navigation) voice output takes place, and the system then returns to (VCS [SBS]) dialogue with the user.
