Function requirements

General

Navigation mode is an assistant function which supports the driver in reaching his/her destination without diverting his/her attention from traffic. This is done by:

The location of the vehicle and the direction and distance to the destination are determined with the aid of the navigation system. The navigation system consists of several subfunctions:

The "Position finding and destination-oriented navigation subfunctions" along with route guidance by voice output are described in separate documents.

Operating instructions

The navigation system can be operated using the following components:

General navigation mode function sequence

The navigation processor integrated into the COMAND controller unit calculates the data entered for reaching the destination (destination-oriented navigation). The route is then calculated taking the configured options into consideration. 5 routes are calculated and then displayed:

The user can decide in favor of one of the routes and start the destination-oriented navigation. If the vehicle is no longer moving on the pre-calculated route, then the route is recalculated. If the recalculated values are plausible for the navigation system, then the modified route is displayed.

IMPORTANT The dynamic destination-oriented navigation can be used for each route option. In doing so, the VICS control unit (A2/37) calculates the route taking traffic information into consideration.

The voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1). Words spoken into the handsfree system microphone group are converted into an electrical signal and forwarded via a direct line to the COMAND controller unit.
