Adjust front multicontour seats, function - GF91.25-P-2002LE

MODEL 216.3 with CODE (409) Left/right front multicontour seat as of model year 2009 /YoM 08

MODEL 221.0 /1 with CODE (409) Left/right front multicontour seat as of model year 2009 up to 2010 /YoM 08 up to YoM 09

Function requirements, general

Function description for front multicontour seat adjustment, general

By actuating the multicontour seat quick select button (A40/9s4) in the front central operating unit (A40/9) the submenu "Multicontour seat" is activated on the COMAND display (A40/8) (without code (867) SPLITVIEW) or SPLITVIEW display (A40/10) (model 216 as of YoM 09 with code (867) SPLITVIEW). The contours and surface hardness of the backrest and seat cushion on the multicontour seat can be individually adjusted by inflating and deflating the air cushions.

The air cushions are located as follows:

The air supply, required for inflating the air cushions, is supplied by the multicontour seat pneumatic pump.

IMPORTANT The Adjust front multicontour seat function is described on the driver seat for left-hand drive vehicles by way of an example, but this also applies for the front passenger seat.

Abort conditions

Blocking

When the following fault is active, the function is blocked for the running ignition sequence:

The "Adjust front multicontour seats" function enables the following subfunctions:

Additional functions also run in the background:

Adjustment of air cushion lateral support for armrest

By actuating the multicontour seat quick select button in the front central operating unit the submenu "Multicontour seat" is activated on the COMAND display (without code (867) SPLITVIEW) or SPLITVIEW display (model 216 as of YoM 09 with code (867) SPLITVIEW). After selecting the driver seat, the rotary pushbutton (A40/9s11) of the front central operating unit can be used to select the "Backrest lateral support" adjustment in the submenu.

The right and left air cushion lateral support for backrests can then be jointly inflated in 20 steps or, if pressed towards "0" deflated down to minimum pressure. In doing so the pneumatic valve is opened after the minimum residual pressure p=15 mbar is reached for no longer than t=1 min (upon actuation).

IMPORTANT The rotary pushbutton on the central operating unit can also be actuated by turning to the right or left instead of up or down in the submenu. Pressing the rotary pushbutton down confirms the particular setting.

Adjustment of air cushion lateral support for seat cushion

Use the front central operating unit and select the "Side seat" setting in the submenu.

Actuating the central operating unit upwards or downwards in the submenu enables the right and left air cushion lateral support to be jointly inflated in steps of 10 or, if pressed towards stage "0", to be deflated to minimum pressure. In doing so, the pneumatic valve is opened after the minimum residual pressure p=25 mbar is reached for no longer than t=1 min (upon actuation).

Up/down adjustment of the lumbar support

Use the front central operating unit and select the "Lumbar support" setting in the submenu. By actuating the rotary pushbutton on the central operating unit upwards or downwards in the submenu, the backrest contour in the lumbar area moves up or down by deflating or inflating the 3 cushions according to a defined performance map for the lumbar support. A specified value between 0 and 100 percent is given for the location of the lumbar support through the 3 lumbar support inserts. This actuation is conducted in increments of 20 steps.

For a specified value entry of 0 percent, the pneumatic valves will remain open once the minimum residual pressure of 15 mbar is reached for no longer than t=1 min (at actuation).

+/- adjustment of the lumbar support

Use the front central operating unit and select the "Lumbar support" setting in the submenu.

By pressing rotary pushbutton on the central operating unit to the right or to the left in the submenu changes the backrest contour of the three lumbar support air cushion manually in increments of 20 by inflating or deflating. Pressing towards "0" causes the lumbar support cushions to be deflated to a minimum pressure. In doing so, the pneumatic valve is opened after the minimum residual pressure p=25 mbar is reached for no longer than t=1 min (upon actuation).

Adjustment of shoulder area

Use the front central operating unit and select the "Shoulder" setting in the submenu. The 2 air cushions in the shoulder area can now be manually inflated in 10 steps by inflation to maximum pressure or, if pressed towards stage "0", deflated to a minimum pressure. In doing so, the pneumatic valve is opened after the minimum residual pressure p=25 mbar is reached for no longer than t=1 min (upon actuation).

Deflating functions

The cushions in the lumbar area are overlapping, and thus their function is linked during the wave sequence.

To ensure correct functioning, the following deflation functions are necessary:

Limit stop deflation (deflation timeout)

If moved towards stage "0", the cushions can be deflated to minimum pressure. In doing so, the pneumatic valve is opened after the minimum residual pressure p=25 mbar is reached for no longer than t=1 min (upon actuation).

Short-term and long-term control

Additional function requirements

The short-term control compensates for overpressure deviations in the air cushions. It activates following every adjustment and only remains active for a shorter, parameterizable period of time. This function is used among others to compensate for sitting down or leaning back immediately and in a comfort-oriented fashion. After the short-term control, the long-term control becomes active. Here, the pressure supply is regulated such that the specified pressure is always achieved. This is done almost without the customer noticing.
