Permanent speed limiter, function - GF30.30-P-3002LEB

ENGINES 156, 273, 275 in MODEL 216 up to 31.8.10 with CODE (440) Cruise control as of model year 2009/YoM 08

ENGINES 156, 272, 273, 275, 642, 629 in MODEL 221 up to 31.8.10 with CODE (440) Cruise control as of model year 2009/YoM 08

Function requirements of Permanent Speed Limiter in general

Permanent Speed Limiter, general

The Permanent Speed Limiter (also known as SPEEDTRONIC) is an additional cruise control function that is integrated into the ESP control unit (N47-5) or the recuperative braking system control unit (N30/6) (with hybrid).

The Permanent Speed Limiter allows the driver to limit the maximum speed of the vehicle (e.g. for winter tires with a lower permissible maximum speed).

The set maximum speed is sent by the IC (A1) via the backbone CAN (CAN F) and chassis CAN (CAN E) to the ESP control unit or to the recuperative braking system control unit (for HYBRID).

The request to decelerate the vehicle is sent by the ESP control unit or the recuperative braking system control unit (with hybrid) via the chassis CAN to the CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engine) or to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine).

A switching request at the automatic transmission is transmitted from the ESP control unit or from the RBS control unit (for HYBRID) via the chassis CAN and drive train CAN (CAN C) to the EGS control unit (N15/3) (for mechanism 722.6) or to the electric controller unit (VGS) (Y3/8) (for transmission 722.9).

Function sequence for Permanent Speed Limiter

Engine power is reduced as the vehicle approaches the set maximum speed.

If this is inadequate, the service brake is actuated proportionately and if necessary, the automatic transmission shifts to a lower gear so that the set maximum speed is not exceeded (e.g. in case of steep declivity).

The Permanent Speed Limiter is switched on or off using the LH and RH multifunction steering wheel button group (S110, S111) with the "Settings" menu, "Speed limiting" menu item on the instrument cluster.

The maximum speed can be set in 10 km/h increments from 160 to 240 km/h.

When the Permanent Speed Limiter is activated, the segments on the rim of the speedometer below the selected maximum speed are illuminated and the others remain off.

If the Permanent Speed Limiter is switched on, it is activated at the same time and can be switched off or deactivated again only through the menu in the instrument cluster.

A warning message is displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) by the instrument cluster at roughly 10 km/h below the set maximum speed.

IMPORTANT While the Permanent Speed Limiter is active, the cruise control or Variable Speed Limiter (except code (494) USA version) can be use independently of the set maximum speed, up to a maximum of 200 km/h.
