Location

The frontal acceleration sensors can be found to the right and left of the front module.

Task

The frontal acceleration sensors determine the acceleration value of the vehicle front for the left and right sides of the vehicle. The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) uses these values to decide whether or not the emergency tensioning retractor or airbag units are deployed.

The frontal acceleration sensors perform a self-test. If the self-test fails 4 times, the relevant frontal acceleration sensor is reported as defective.

IMPORTANT Upon request of the restraint systems control unit, the measuring range and the sensitivity of the frontal acceleration sensors are transmitted, and it is checked whether they match the programmed equipment. The production data can be output via STAR DIAGNOSIS.
