Remove/install support element at left of roll bar - AR91.50-P-0010R: Notes

MODEL 230.4 except CODE (P99) "AMG Black Series" special model

REMOVING Removing    
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by body parts being pinched or crushed when working on gas- operated struts under tension Only remove and install gas-operated struts when they are not under tension and when the components are properly secured. AS00.00-Z-0012-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  when performing check and repair work in area of rollover bar Extend roll bar before working in the roll bar area Keep body parts away from the moving area of the roll bar mechanical system. AS91.00-Z-0003-01R
1 Use the roll bar switch to fully raise the roll bar (7)    
2 Switch off the ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS control unit IMPORTANT On vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go, press the Keyless Go start/stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off. Remove the Keyless Go transmitter card or transmitter key from the vehicle and store beyond the reach of the transmitter (min. 2 m).  
3 Lower roll bar (7) mechanically   AR91.50-P-8400R 
4 Unscrew bolt (2)    
5 Unclip cover (3) to snap-in hooks (arrow A)    
6 Insert assembly aid (4) into support element at left (1) SPECIAL TOOL Figure
7 Raise roll bar (7) mechanically IMPORTANT Raise roll bar (7) until assembly aid (4) sits firmly in place in left support element (1). AR91.50-P-8400R

8 Remove hydraulic cylinder lock pawl (5) from left support element (1)   AR91.53-P-0100R 
9 Use the long wedge to unclip the cap (6) at the catch hooks (arrows B) on roll bar (7) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 2
10 Unscrew bolt (10)    
11 Remove bolts (8)    
12 Remove left support element (1) from longitudinal member console    
INSTALLING Install     
13 Pre-tension gas-operated strut on left support element (1) of roll bar (7) When installing a new left support element (1). AR91.50-P-0010-01R

REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS Lever for pressing down the gas-operated strut on the support element of the roll bar   WF58.50-P-9150-01R
14 Insert left support element (1) in to the longitudinal member bracket IMPORTANT Ensure that sleeve (9) in left support element (1) is inserted.  
15 Fasten left support element (1) using bolts (8) on longitudinal member bracket IMPORTANT Do not tighten bolts (8), as these are tightened during roll bar (7) adjustment.  
16 Adjust roll bar (7) IMPORTANT The bolts (8) are tightened here. Leave left side paneling removed. AR91.50-P-9200R 
17 Screw in bolt (10) NOTES Replace self-locking bolt (10).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.50-P-1003-01A 
18 Install cap (6) on roll bar (7)    
19 Install hydraulic cylinder lock pawl (5) on left support element (1) IMPORTANT See:↓  
    Remove/install hydraulic cylinder lock pawl on support element AR91.53-P-0100R 
20 Install cover (3)    
21 Screw in bolt (2)    
22 Lower roll bar (7) mechanically IMPORTANT Before installing the left side paneling, remove the assembly aid (4) from the left support element (1). AR91.50-P-8400R

23 Perform function test on roll bar (7) IMPORTANT When doing so, raise and lower roll bar (7) several times using the roll bar switch.
