Driver-side/passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor, task - GF91.60-P-4020-02QM

The driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) and the passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2) determine the acceleration values in the area of the left and right front sections of the vehicle. They support the triggering behavior of the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) during a frontal crash. They help the system to better determine whether an accident is severe enough to require the airbags to be triggered or not.

IMPORTANT The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) can also trigger the restraint systems even if it does not receive any signals from the driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) and the passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2). In case of failure of the driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1), the signal from the passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2) continues to be evaluated. This also applies vice versa.
