The ETC [EGS] control unit determines the instantaneous operating condition of the vehicle and controls all gear change sequences taking into account shift comfort and the driving situation.

It receives operating data as internal transmission input signals from the:

The ETC [EGS] control unit takes over the actuation of the solenoid valves for modulating pressure, shift pressure and the gear change. The pressure required is calculated from all input signals, adjusted to the torque to be transferred.

A data exchange via the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN C) takes place with the following control units:

This involves the processing of the following data from other systems: 

CDI control unit (except M 272) 

ME-SFI [ME] control unit (with M 272) 

EWM control unit 

ESP control unit 

EIS [EZS] control unit 

The following information is passed to other systems: Instrument cluster 

CDI control unit (except M 272) 

ME-SFI [ME] control unit (with M 272) 

SAM control unit 

Backup camera control unit with code (FR7) preinstallation for backup assist 

PSM control unit with code (ED5) Parameterizable special module (PSM)
