Location

The WSS control unit is located in the seat frame of the front passenger seat.

Task

The WSS control unit has the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals

The input factors are read in via the following connection:

Direct line

The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:

Evaluation of input factors (with 204.0 up to 28.2.11, model 204.9 up to 31.5.11, model 204.3)

The WSS control unit determines the weight (person or child seat) on the front passenger seat. This is determined via a pressure measurement in a gel mat filled with silicone. The pressure measurement is performed by the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor. The belt pulling capacity is recorded by the belt tension sensor. The WSS control unit directly reads in the signals from the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor and the belt tension sensor.

The WSS control unit calculates the weight class and sends this over the interior CAN (CAN B), front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) and chassis CAN (CAN E) to the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10).

The power for the belt tension sensor and the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor is supplied via a direct line to the WSS control unit.

Evaluation of input factors (with 204.0 as of 1.3.11, model 204.9 as of 1.6.11)

The WSS control unit determines the weight (person or child seat) on the front passenger seat. This is determined via a pressure measurement in a gel mat filled with silicone. The measurement is conducted using the pressure sensor integrated into the WSS control unit. The belt pulling capacity is recorded by the belt tension sensor.

The WSS control unit uses the pressure and belt tension to calculate the corresponding weight class and sends this over the seat occupied LIN (LIN E2) to the supplemental restraint system control unit.
