Location 

The DBE control unit is located in the center of the driver compartment roof area.

Task 

The DBE control unit reads in the integrated buttons, is a master control unit for the anti-theft alarm system [EDW] and it is connected to the Controller Area Network bus Class B (interior) (CAN-B).

Generally the DBE control unit regulates the following systems or supports the master control units:

• Interior lights (IBL)
• Tilting/sliding roof (SHD), with code (D27) Electr. glass tilting/sliding roof
• Rear sliding roof unit (SDE-H), for model 906 with code (D24) Power tilting/sliding roof in passenger compartment
• Rain/light sensor (B38/2), with code (JA5) Light/rain sensor
• Telephone, with code (EH3) Universal preinstallation for networked mobile phone
• Anti-theft alarm system, with code (FZ5) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW])
• Anti-theft alarm system, with code (FZ4) Breaking and entering/vehicle theft alarm with interior protection and tow-away protection
• Anti-theft alarm system, with code (FY1) Anti-theft alarm system 2 with interior protection, tow-away protection and rechargeable-battery horn

IBL 

The following functions are controlled for the IBL:

• Actuation of left front dome lamp (N70e1), right front dome lamp (N70e2), reading lamp, left front (N70e3), reading lamp, right front (N70e4)
• Actuation of switch and controls illumination for integrated buttons

Tilting/sliding roof, with code (D27) Electr. glass tilting/sliding roof 

The front tilting/sliding roof motor (M12m1) is controlled for the tilting/sliding roof.

Rear sliding roof unit, for model 906 with code (D24) Power tilting/sliding roof in passenger compartment 

The rear tilting/sliding roof motor (M12/1m1) is controlled for the rear sliding roof unit.

Rain/light sensor, with code (JA5) Light/rain sensor 

In the rain/light sensor the signals are read in and converted to CAN-B messages or vice versa.

Telephone, with code (EH3) Universal preinstallation for networked mobile phone 

The signals of the hands-free system microphone with overhead control panel for LHD vehicles (B25/13) are read in for the telephone and converted to CAN-B messages and vice versa.

Anti-theft alarm system, with code (FZ5) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) 

The following functions are controlled for the anti-theft alarm system:

• Actuation of anti-theft alarm system
• Monitoring status of sliding doors (with code (T16) Right load compartment sliding door or with code (T19) Left sliding door), the driver, front passenger and hinged rear doors, the EDW hood switch (S62), stationary heater (STH) (with code (H12) Auxiliary heater (warm water)), tandem heater booster (with code (HZ5) Warm water auxiliary heater 10 kW with timer), the heater booster (ZUH) (with code (HZ9) Heater booster, diesel) as well as the heater (except code (HH9) Regulated air conditioning, (Tempmatic)) or Tempmatic ™ (with code (HH9) Regulated air conditioning, (Tempmatic))
• Actuation of IBL for anti-theft alarm system alarm
• Signaling horn (H1) switch-on request for anti-theft alarm system alarm
• Turn signal switch-on request for anti-theft alarm system activation, deactivation or alarm

Anti-theft alarm system, with code (FZ4) Breaking and entering/vehicle theft alarm with interior protection and tow-away protection 

The following functions are controlled for the anti-theft alarm system:

• Actuation of anti-theft alarm system
• Voltage supply of front interior protection sensor (B44) with integrated Inclination sensor, center interior protection sensor (B44/1) and the rear interior protection sensor (B44/2)
• Monitoring status of sliding doors (with code (T16) Right load compartment sliding door or with code (T19) Left sliding door), the driver, front passenger and hinged rear doors, the EDW hood switch, stationary heater (STH) (with code (H12) Auxiliary heater (warm water)), tandem heater booster (with code (HZ5) Warm water auxiliary heater 10 kW with timer), the heater booster (ZUH) (with code (HZ9) Heater booster, diesel) as well as the heater (except code (HH9) Regulated air conditioning, (Tempmatic)) or Tempmatic ™ (with code (HH9) Regulated air conditioning, (Tempmatic))

The DBE control unit reads in the following integrated keys and buttons:

• Interior protection switch (B44s1), with code (FZ4) Breaking and entering/vehicle theft alarm with interior protection and tow-away protection or with code (FY1) Anti-theft alarm system 2 with interior protection, tow-away protection and battery-operated horn, over the front interior protection sensor with integrated inclination sensor
• Tow-away protection button (B44s2), with code (FZ4) Breaking and entering/vehicle theft alarm with interior protection and tow-away protection or with code (FY1) Anti-theft alarm system 2 with interior protection, tow-away protection and battery-operated horn, over the front interior protection sensor with integrated inclination sensor

• Interior lamp ON and OFF button (N70s2)

If the DBE control unit detects actuation of the integrated keys and buttons for t ≥ 20 s, so the signal is ignored and a fault saved. An actuation signal is not issued directly nor sent to CAN-B.

If the integrated keys or buttons are actuated again then the DBE control unit must detect beforehand the park position of each respective key or button for t > 1 s.

The DBE control unit also reads in the following sensors and switches:

• Rain/light sensor, with code (JA5) Light/rain sensor
