Location
The all-wheel drive control unit is located in the driver seat frame.
Task
The all-wheel drive control unit receives information from the following components via discrete lines:
- All-wheel drive engagement button (S76/11), status, on vehicles with code (ZG1) Engageable all-wheel drive and on vehicles with code (ZG3) Gear reduction for all-wheel drive
- All-wheel drive low range button (S76/12), status, on vehicles with code (ZG3) Gear reduction for all-wheel drive and on vehicles with code (ZG4) Permanent all-wheel drive with gear reduction
- Turning angle sensor (B24/19), actual position of selector drum
- All-wheel drive actuator motor (M88), rotational speed and rotational direction of all-wheel drive actuator motor
The all-wheel drive control unit actuates the all-wheel drive actuator motor by means of a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal via a discrete line.
The all-wheel drive control unit receives information from the following components via the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C):
- ESP control unit (N30/4), status of clutch pedal switch (S40/3) and transmission neutral position switch (S164) on vehicles with transmission 711.6
- ESP control unit, status, electronic stability program (ESP) active
- ESP control unit (N30/4), status of brake light switch (S9/1)
- ESM [EWM] control unit (N15/5), selector lever position on vehicles with transmission 722.6
The all-wheel drive control unit sends information to the following components via CAN-C:
- Instrument cluster (A1), status of transfer case, reduction engaged or disengaged, on vehicles with code (ZG3) Gear reduction for all-wheel drive and on vehicles with code (ZG4) Permanent all-wheel drive with gear reduction
- Instrument cluster, status of transfer case, all-wheel drive engaged or disengaged, on vehicles with code (JK3) High-end instrument cluster standard with speedometer in km and with code (ZG3) Gear reduction for all-wheel drive or code (ZG1) Engageable all-wheel drive
- ESP control unit, status of transfer case, gear reduction engaged or disengaged, on vehicles with code (ZG3) Gear reduction for all-wheel drive and on vehicles with code (ZG4) Permanent all-wheel drive with gear reduction
- ESP control unit, status of transfer case, all-wheel drive engaged or disengaged, on vehicles with code (ZG3) Gear reduction for all-wheel drive and on vehicles with code (ZG1) Engageable all-wheel drive
If the gear reduction is activated and engaged on vehicles with code (ZG3) Gear reduction for all-wheel drive or on vehicles with code (ZG4) Permanent all-wheel drive with gear reduction, the LOW RANGE indicator lamp (A1e37) is actuated in the instrument cluster.
On vehicles with code (JK3) High-end instrument cluster standard with speedometer in km and with code (ZG3) Gear reduction for all-wheel drive or code (ZG1) Engageable all-wheel drive, the message announcing that the all-wheel drive has been activated appears in the display (A1p1) of the instrument cluster if the all-wheel drive has been successfully engaged.
