Remove/Install Fuel Tank - Ar47.10-D-4100SD

Model 906 with engine 642, 651

Shown on model 906 with code H12 (Hot-water auxiliary heater) without code XM0 (Facelift) 

  Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Raise vehicle.   AR00.60-D-1000H
2 Empty the fuel tank (1).   AR47.10-S-4001S 
3 Remove fuel filler flap.   AR88.60-D-6023SD
4 Remove paneling (3) IMPORTANT To do this, remove screws (2).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure correct seating of the sealing lip.
 
5 Remove screw (4) at filler neck (5). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace lock nut for screw (4).  
6 Remove cable tie (6). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cable tie (6).  
7 Disconnect fuel tank electrical connector (16).    
8 Remove seal (7). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that sealing (7) is seated correctly.  
9 Unclip and disconnect fuel tank electrical connector (15) at underbody.    
10 Disconnect fuel line (14). Model 906 with engine 642, 651 with code H12 (Auxiliary hot-water heater)
Model 906 with engine 642, 651 with code HZ5 (10 kW warm water auxiliary heater with timer)
Model 906 with engine 642, 651 with code HZ9 (Heater booster)
IMPORTANT Collect escaping fuel.

11 Release and disconnect fuel feed line (8) and fuel return line (9). IMPORTANT Collect escaping fuel.

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not mix up fuel feed line (8) and fuel return line (9). Connections are color coded.
 
12 Remove tensioning strap (10). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, fuel tank tensioning strap to longitudinal member *BA47.10-N-1002-01E 
13 Support fuel tank (1) at center.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
14 Remove tensioning straps (11, 12). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, fuel tank tensioning strap to longitudinal member *BA47.10-N-1002-01E 
15 Lower fuel tank (1) until bleed line (13) can be accessed.    
16 Unclip and remove bleed line (13) at fuel tank (1).    
17 Lower fuel tank (1) and extract remaining fuel from fuel tank (1).    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 02 71 00 Pump   WS47.00-P-0017B
18 Transfer fuel delivery module and lines at fuel tank (1). When replacing the fuel tank (1).  
Remove/install fuel pump and fill level sensor AR47.20-D-7000SD 
19 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
20 Perform engine test run and check fuel system in area of fuel tank (1) for leaks.
