Location
The COMAND controller unit is installed into the center console.
Task
The COMAND controller unit centrally actuates the following systems:
- Audio systems (radio mode, CD mode and DVD mode)
- Navigation system
- Telematics system (telephone mode, email, Internet)
- Video systems (TV, DVD)
Design
The following are integrated in the COMAND controller unit:
- Function keys
- ON button
- DVD drive
- Central computer
- Navigation processor
- PCMCIA interface
Function
The panel buttons on the COMAND controller unit are read in and supplied to the central computer. Button actuations are further processed in the central computer and sent to additional system components as messages via the telematics CAN or interior CAN. If the ON button on the COMAND controller unit is pressed, the COMAND controller unit is switched on.
The volume for the set audio source is regulated by turning the ON button. Pressing the function keys enables the user to switch to the desired system components.
