Location

The Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit is located in the seat frame of the front passenger seat.

Task

The Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit measures the weight (person or child seat) on the front passenger seat. It is determined by measuring the pressure in a gel mat filled with silicone. The pressure measurement is carried out by the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor (B48/4).

The tractive force on the seat belt is transmitted via the belt tension sensor (B48/3) to the Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit.

The Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit uses the pressure and the seat belt tension to calculate the corresponding weight class and forwards this information via interior CAN to the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10).

The Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit carries out a self-test with circuit 15 On, during which the pressure sensor and the belt tension sensor are also checked.
