The ME control unit communicates with the following control units over the Controller Area Network bus, Class C (engine compartment) (CAN C):
- Instrument cluster (A1), actuation of EOBD indicator light (A1e17) and output of messages on display (A1p1)
- ETC control unit (N15/3) (with transmission 722.6), e.g. torque request by ETC control unit, actual and nominal curve information from ETC control unit
- EWM control unit (N15/5) (with transmission 722.6), Selector lever position
- ESP control unit (N30/4), e.g. torque requirement from ESP control unit, wheel speeds
- EIS control unit (N73), e.g. diagnosis communication, communication for enabling drive authorization system, stage 3 (DAS 3)
- PSM control unit (N26/15) (with code (ED8) Preinstallation parameterizable special module (PSM) or with code (ED5) Parameterizable special module (PSM), for attachment of special bodies)
The EIS control unit serves as an interface between the CAN C and the Controller Area Network bus, class B (interior) (CAN B), thereby allowing the ME control unit to communicate with the following control units:
- SAM control unit (N10)
- Lowline airbag control unit
- Highline airbag control unit (with code (SH6) Thoraxbag for driver (in seat backrest), with code (SH7) Thoraxbag for driver and front passenger (in seat backrest) or with code (SH9) Windowbag for driver and front passenger)
- AAC control and operating unit (S98), with code (HH9) Regulated air conditioning (Tempmatic) or code (H08) High performance air conditioning
The ME control unit has a fault memory which can be read out and deleted with the aid of Star Diagnosis via the 16-pin diagnostic socket (X11). The ME control unit is flashable and codable.
