Location

The supplemental restraint system control unit is located on the transmission tunnel.

Task

The supplemental restraint system control unit has the following tasks:

IMPORTANT Model 218 as of 9/1/14 with code 494 (US version)

An accident data recorder is integrated in the supplemental restraint system control unit, which records relevant data before, during and after an accident. The data stored can be used to trace back the course of the accident.

Reading in of sensors and signals

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Direct line

The signals from the following sensors are read via direct lines:

Seat occupancy LIN (as of 01.12.2011)

The Supplemental Restraint System control unit reads in information on the seat occupied recognition of the front passenger seat from the following components:

Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 01.03.2013)

The Supplemental Restraint System control unit reads in the following signals, among others, via the chassis CAN or chassis CAN 1:

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Actuation of components

The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:

Direct line

The following components are actuated via direct lines:

Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 01.03.2013)

The Supplemental Restraint System control unit sends the following signals, among others, via the chassis CAN or chassis CAN 1:

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
