Supplemental restraint system control unit, component description - GF91.60-P-4080FQ
Model 218
Location
The supplemental restraint system control unit is located on the transmission tunnel.
Task
The supplemental restraint system control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
Model 218 as of 9/1/14 with code 494 (US version)
An accident data recorder is integrated in the supplemental restraint system control unit, which records relevant data before, during and after an accident. The data stored can be used to trace back the course of the accident.
Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Seat occupancy LIN (LIN E2) (as of 01.12.2011)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) (as of 01.03.2013)
Direct line
The signals from the following sensors are read via direct lines:
- Left sidebag sensor (A53)
- Right sidebag sensor (A54)
- Front passenger seat occupied recognition (B41/1) (without code U18 (Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]) and without code U10 (Automatic front passenger airbag shutoff))
- Front passenger seat occupied recognition and ACSR [AKSE] (B48) (with code U18 (Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE])), up to 30.11.2011)
- Left frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1)
- Right frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2)
- Left front door pressure sensor (B48/7)
- Right front door pressure sensor (B48/8)
- Left rear door pressure sensor (B48/9) (with CODE 293 (Sidebags in rear))
- Right rear door pressure sensor (B48/10) (with CODE 293 (Sidebags in rear))
- Driver belt buckle restraint system switch (S68/3)
- Front passenger belt buckle restraint system switch (S68/4)
Seat occupancy LIN (as of 01.12.2011)
The Supplemental Restraint System control unit reads in information on the seat occupied recognition of the front passenger seat from the following components:
- Front passenger seat occupied recognition and ACSR [AKSE] (B48) (with CODE U18 (Automatic child seat recognition, ACSR [AKSE]))
- Weight sensing system (WSS) control unit (N110) (with CODE U10 (Automatic front passenger airbag shutoff))
Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 01.03.2013)
The Supplemental Restraint System control unit reads in the following signals, among others, via the chassis CAN or chassis CAN 1:
- Status of front passenger seat occupied recognition (with code U10 (Automatic front passenger airbag shutoff), up to 30.11.2011)
- Status of belt buckles in rear
- Status of the central locking (CL)
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 01.03.2013)
Direct line
The following components are actuated via direct lines:
- Pyrofuse 150 (F32f150) without code B03 (ECO start/stop function))
- Pyrofuse (F63) (with code B03 (ECO start/stop function))
- Driver emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/1)
- Front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/2)
- Front passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4)
- Front passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5)
- Left rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/6)
- Right rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/7)
- Driver sidebag squib (R12/9)
- Front passenger sidebag squib (R12/10)
- Left rear sidebag squib (R12/11) (with code 293 (Sidebags in rear))
- Right rear sidebag squib (R12/12) (with code 293 (Sidebags in rear))
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13)
- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)
- Left window bag squib (R12/22)
- Right window bag squib (R12/23)
- Driver kneebag squib (R12/25) (with CODE 294 (Kneebag))
- Driver pelvisbag squib (R12/41) (with code 291 (PELVIS AIRBAG (PELVISBAG)))
- Front passenger pelvisbag squib (R12/42) (with code 291 (PELVIS AIRBAG (PELVISBAG)))
- Driver seat NECK-PRO head restraint solenoid (Y24/12)
- Front passenger seat NECK-PRO head restraint solenoid (Y24/13)

Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 01.03.2013)
The Supplemental Restraint System control unit sends the following signals, among others, via the chassis CAN or chassis CAN 1:
- Crash signal
- Display fault message request
- Driver belt buckle restraint system switch status
- Front passenger belt buckle restraint system switch status
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
