Location
The parking system control unit is in the front passenger footwell.
Task
The parking system control unit is responsible for the following tasks:
- Control of systems
- Reading in of sensors
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
Control of systems
The parking system control unit controls the following systems:
- PARKTRONIC (with code (220) PARKTRONIC)
- Active Parking Assist (with code (235) Active Parking Assist)
Reading in of sensors
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) (as of 01.03.2013)
Direct line
The parking system control unit reads in the signals from the following components via direct lines:
- Left front outer parking system distance sensor (B8/1)
- Left front center parking system distance sensor (B8/2)
- Left front inner parking system distance sensor (B8/3)
- Right front inner parking system distance sensor (B8/4)
- Right front center parking system distance sensor (B8/5)
- Right front outer parking system distance sensor (B8/6)
- Outer right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/7)
- Inner right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/8)
- Inner left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/9)
- Outer left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/10)
Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
The parking system control unit reads in the following information over the chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013):
- Vehicle speed, transmitted by instrument cluster (A1)
- Engaged gear range, sent by fully integrated transmission control unit (Y3/8n4)
- Data from rain/light sensor (B38/2), sent by front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)
- Status of parking system button (N72/1s8), sent by front SAM control unit
- Status of parking brake indicator switch (S12), sent by front SAM control unit
- Wheel speed and wheel rotation direction, sent by Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) (without code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or without engine 157) or Premium Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/7) (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or with engine 157)
- Electric power steering torque sensor (A91b1) signal, transmitted by electrical power steering control unit (N68)
- Circuit 15 status as sent by the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73)
- Switch position of combination switch (S4), transmitted by steering column tube module control unit (N80)
- Data from steering angle sensor (N49), sent by steering column tube module control unit
- Signal from left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110), transmitted by steering column tube module control unit
- Status of trailer recognition, sent by trailer recognition control unit (N28/1) (with code (550) Trailer hitch)
Further information about the respective signal paths to the parking system control unit is given under the corresponding functions and in the block diagrams and function schematics.
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
Direct line
The parking system control unit actuates the following components via direct lines:
- Rear parking system warning indicator (A44/3)
- Instrument panel parking system warning indicator (A44/4)
- Parking system distance sensors
Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
The parking system control unit sends the following signals over the chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013):
- Request to display message or output warning tone to instrument cluster
- Request for parking system status indication to front SAM control unit
- Power steering request to electrical power steering control unit
