Location
The parking system control unit is located in the trunk on the left side wall (except model 205.4) or in the load compartment well (model 205.4).
Tasks
The parking system control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
- Output of signals
Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- HSVL line (high-speed video link)
- Turning angle sensor LIN (LIN DWS) (model 253 with code 553 (Trailer hitch with turning angle sensor))
- Suspension FlexRay (Flex E)
Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via direct lines:
- Outer left front parking system distance sensor (B8/1)
- Center left front parking system distance sensor (B8/2)
- Inner left front parking system distance sensor (B8/3)
- Inner right front parking system distance sensor (B8/4)
- Center right front parking system distance sensor (B8/5)
- Outer right front parking system distance sensor (B8/6)
- Outer right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/7)
- Inner right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/8)
- Inner left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/9)
- Outer left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/10)
- Center left rear parking system distance sensor (B8/11)
- Center right rear parking system distance sensor (B8/12)
HSVL line
The image data from each of the following assembly parts is read in via a separate HSVL line:
- Reversing camera (B84/3) (with CODE 218 (Reversing camera))
- Left outside mirror 360° camera (B84/7) (with code 501 (360° camera))
- Right outside mirror 360° camera (B84/8) (with code 501 (360° camera))
- Front 360° camera (B84/9) (with code 501 (360° camera))
- Reversing camera 360° system (B84/10) (with code 501 (360° camera))
Turning angle sensor LIN (model 253 with code 553 (Trailer hitch with turning angle sensor))
The parking system control unit reads in the data of the trailer hitch turning angle sensor (B24/24) via the turning angle sensor LIN.
Chassis FlexRay
The parking system control unit also reads in the following information over the suspension FlexRay:
- Terminal 15 status
- Signal "Engine running" or "Drive train operational"
- Wheel speed and wheel rotation direction
- Driving stage engaged
- Electrical power steering control unit status (N68)
- Electric power steering torque sensor (A91b1) signal (toothed rack position)
- Front wheel angle
- Steering torque applied by driver (Hands-off detection status)
- Status of parking space selection
- Speed control/cruise control status
- Parking brake status
- Brake status
- ESP® status
- Trailer operation status (with code 550 (Trailer hitch))
- Blind Spot Assist warning (with code 234 (Blind Spot Assist))
- Blind Spot Assist brake request (with code 234 (Blind Spot Assist))
- Steering wheel angle and steering wheel velocity
- Vehicle level (with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL))
- PARKTRONIC button status (except code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL))
- Status of parking system button
- Accelerator pedal position
- Ambient illumination status (with code 501 (360° camera))
- Outside mirror housing status (with code P49 (Mirror package))
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see the appropriate block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The parking system control unit actuates the parking system distance sensors and the parking system speaker (H13/4) via direct lines.
The signals for activating the Audio/COMAND display are sent by the parking system control unit over the suspension FlexRay. The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see the appropriate block diagram or function schematic).
Output of signals
The parking system control unit also sends the following information or requests over the suspension FlexRay:
- Status of parking system
- Engaging gear range
- Increase/reduce the braking torque
- Control mode request (speed control/cruise control)
- Request for front wheel angle (steering angle)
- Information on distance to obstacle (remaining distance to obstacle)
- Request for braking mode
- Request for folding in outside mirror housings (with code P49 (Mirror package))
- Request for rear camera cover
- Request for ambient illumination (with code 501 (360° camera))
- Parking system display in Audio/COMAND display
- Output of system and warning messages
The parking system control unit sends the image data via a HSVL line to the head unit (A26/17).
