Location 

Left front actuation module, LED exterior lighting is mounted at the side of the left front lamp unit.

Right front actuation module, LED exterior lighting is mounted at the side of the right front lamp unit.

Task 

The front LED exterior lights actuation modules are responsible for the following tasks:

• Provide and monitor supply voltage and operating current of the actuated light-emitting diodes (LED)
• Actuation of the LEDs in the corresponding front lamp unit to output the light functions:
  • Standing lamp
  • Parking light
  • Turn signal lamp
  • Cornering lights (with CODE 621 (Intelligent Light System (left- hand traffic)) or CODE 622 (Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic)))
  • Infrared light (with CODE 610 (Night View Assist))
  • Thermal management (temperature monitoring and fan control) (with CODE 610 (Night View Assist))

The front LED exterior lights actuation modules actuate the LEDs located in the front lamp unit to implement the individual light functions.

The LEDs are each connected in series.

The front actuation modules, LED exterior lighting are supplied with power by the SAM control unit (N10) (circuit 30L).

The individual light functions are output after applying voltage at the respective input channel of the front LED exterior lights actuation module. The SAM control unit controls the standing, parking and turn signal lights.

The cornering lights lighting functions (with CODE 621 (Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic)) or CODE 622 (Intelligent Light System (right- hand traffic))) and infrared light (with CODE 610 (Night View Assist)) are controlled by the headlamp control unit (N71/1).

The left front actuation module, LED exterior lighting communicates via left headlamp LIN (LIN G1) with the left headlamp control unit. The right front actuation module, LED exterior lighting communicates via right headlamp LIN (LIN G2) with the right headlamp control unit. Identified malfunctions of individual components are stored in a non-volatile memory. The front actuation modules, LED exterior lighting can be diagnosed using the headlamp control unit.

Differentiation is made between the following variants of the front actuation modules, LED exterior lighting depending on the vehicle equipment:

• 2-channel front actuation module, LED exterior lighting with CODE 615 (Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination)
• 3-channel front actuation module, LED exterior lighting with CODE 621 (Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic)) or CODE 622 (Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
• 5-channel front actuation module, LED exterior lighting with CODE 610 (Night View Assist)
