Location 

The trailer recognition control unit is located at the side behind the cover in the trunk.

Task 

The trailer recognition control unit is connected to the network architecture of the vehicle via the interior CAN (CAN B).

The trailer recognition control unit actuates the trailer's lighting system.

To implement the functions, the trailer recognition control unit processes, among others, the following information:

• Circuit status
• "Switch on light function on trailer" request
• Request for trailer socket emergency shutoff
• "Swivel ball neck" request (vehicles with electrically driven ball neck)
• Trailer tightening angle request (vehicles with trailer maneuvering stabilization)

The trailer recognition control unit processes these input factors and sends, among others, the following information:

• "Trailer detected" status
• Status of light functions on trailer
• Position of ball neck
• Status of ball neck lock
• Trailer tightening angle (vehicles with trailer maneuvering stabilization)
• "Show display messages" request
