Location
The electrical power steering control unit is attached to the electric power steering actuator motor.
Task
The electric power steering control unit is the central control unit for the steering functions.
The electric power steering control unit engages in the following functions:
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)
- Active Park Assist
In order to carry out these functions, the electrical power steering control unit primarily processes the following input factors:
- Steer Assist torque request and wheel speeds
- Engine status, drivetrain operational and engine speed
- Steering wheel angle and steering wheel velocity
- Current status and requested toothed rack position of parking system control unit
The electric power steering control unit processes these input factors and primarily transmits the following actuations:
- Warning message in multifunction display of instrument cluster
- Steering torque, steering wheel velocity and Steer Assist status to the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) control unit
- Electrical power steering control unit
- Toothed rack position
