Tasks
The upper control panel control unit performs the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Sending signals
Reading in of signals
Signals are read in via the following connection:
- Battery sensor-LIN (LIN B15)
Battery sensor LIN
The upper control panel control unit reads in function feedback requests over the battery sensor LIN. These are then transmitted by the SAM control unit (N10).
Feedback on the activity of the following functions is provided by the corresponding light-emitting diodes in the buttons on the upper control panel control unit's controls:
- Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) (with CODE 551 (Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW])))
- Parking system (with CODE 220 (PARKTRONIC) or CODE 235 (Active Parking Assist))
- Front seat heater (with CODE 873 (Seat heater for driver and front passenger) or CODE 401 (Climatised seats for driver and front passenger))
- Front seat ventilation (with CODE 401 (Climatised seats for driver and front passenger))
- Stationary heater (with CODE 228 (Stationary heater))
- On/off-road menu (with CODE 430 (On & off-road package))
- ECO start-stop function (with CODE B03 (ECO start-stop function))
- Operating mode selection (with Model 166.063)
- Downhill Speed Regulation (on Model 166.0 with CODE 494 (USA version) and steel spring)

Signals are sent through the following connection:
- Battery sensor LIN
Battery sensor LIN
The upper control panel control unit sends the function requests for the following buttons over the battery sensor LIN to the front SAM control unit:
- ESP OFF button
- Parking system button (with CODE 220 (PARKTRONIC) or CODE 235 (Active Parking Assist))
- Left front seat heater button (with CODE 873 (Seat heater for driver and front passenger) or CODE 401 (Climatised seats for driver and front passenger))
- Right front seat heater button (with CODE 873 (Seat heater for driver and front passenger) or CODE 401 (Climatised seats for driver and front passenger))
- Left front seat ventilation button (with CODE 401 (Seat climate control for driver and front passenger))
- Right front seat ventilation button (with CODE 401 (Seat climate control for driver and front passenger))
- Stationary heater button (with CODE 228 (Stationary heater))
- On/Off-road menu button (with CODE 430 (On & Off-road package))
- ECO start/stop function button (for code B03 (ECO start/stop function))
- Operating mode selection button (for Model 166.063)
