Location
The Audio/COMAND® control panel is located on the center console between the front seats.
Task
The Audio/COMAND® control panel includes:
- Audio/COMAND® controller for navigation within the menu and selection of menu items, for operation of character bar on Audio/COMAND® display (A40/8) and for navigating on the Internet
- "Back" button, to jump back a level within a menu
- "Delete" button, to delete individual characters or complete entries
- Left free programming button and right free programming button, to jump to a user-defined menu or to be able to activate the multicontour seats (with CODE 399 (Front multicontour seats with massage function)) function
The Audio/COMAND® control panel performs the following:
- Operating unit for entertainment and communication systems integrated into vehicle
- Transmission and reception of signals
- Actuation of system components

The audio equipment provides the user with a structured and standard interface for the following system components, which can be operated using the Audio/COMAND® control panel:
Audio:
- Radio
- CD (also MP3)
- AUX electrical connection (X39/45) up to 13.12.2013, for external audio equipment (except CODE 518 (Media Interface))
- USB electrical connector (X115)
- Media interface electrical connector (X18/70) (with CODE 518 (Media interface))
Video:
- DVD audio/DVD video (with CODE 512 (COMAND® APS with DVD changer), CODE 527 (COMAND® APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)) and CODE 528 (COMAND® incl. DVD changer))
- TV (with CODE 863 (Digital/analog TV tuner) or CODE 865 (TV tuner))
- Telephone
- Internet (with CODE 527 (COMAND® APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)), with CODE 512 (COMAND® APS with DVD changer) except CODE 494 (USA version), with CODE 512 (COMAND® APS with DVD changer) with CODE 348 (Emergency call/Assist system))
- Navigation (with CODE 512 (COMAND® APS with DVD changer), with CODE 527 (COMAND® APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)))
