Component Description For Camshaft Position Sensor - GF07.04-D-6021HD
ENGINES 651.955/956/957 in MODEL 906
with CODE (XZ1) Model generation 1
with CODE (MZ0) Blue EFFICIENCY
Location
Shown on model 906, view of the engine from the upper left
The camshaft sensor is located in the center of the valve cover above the exhaust camshaft.
Task
The camshaft sensor contactlessly detects the position of the camshaft.
Input and output signals
Direct input signals
- Supply voltage for the CDI control unit (N3/28)
Direct output signals
- Voltage pulse to recognize the camshaft position at the CDI control unit
This signal from the camshaft sensor together with the signal from the crankshaft sensor (L5/10) serves to recognize cylinder 1. If the signal from the crankshaft Hall sensor is not available to the CDI control unit, the CDI control unit uses the signal from the camshaft Hall sensor as a substitute value for the engine start.
Function
The camshaft sensor is supplied by the CDI control unit with voltage. The installed permanent magnet generates a magnetic field in the camshaft sensor. The magnetic field is interrupted periodically while the engine is running by a pinhole-diaphragm. A voltage pulse is generated in the Hall electronics installed for the camshaft sensor as a result of the magnetic field. The electronics convert this signal into a square wave signal which is forwarded to the CDI control unit.
