Task

The camshaft sensor contactlessly detects the position of the camshaft.

Input and output signals

Direct input signals

Direct output signals

IMPORTANT This signal from the camshaft sensor together with the signal from the crankshaft sensor (L5/10) serves to recognize cylinder 1. If the signal from the crankshaft Hall sensor is not available to the CDI control unit, the CDI control unit uses the signal from the camshaft Hall sensor as a substitute value for the engine start.

Function

The camshaft sensor is supplied by the CDI control unit with voltage. The installed permanent magnet generates a magnetic field in the camshaft sensor. The magnetic field is interrupted periodically while the engine is running by a pinhole-diaphragm. A voltage pulse is generated in the Hall electronics installed for the camshaft sensor as a result of the magnetic field. The electronics convert this signal into a square wave signal which is forwarded to the CDI control unit.
