Task

The exhaust back pressure sensor determines the exhaust back pressure upstream of the turbocharger and passes the change of resistance onto the CDI control unit (N3/28).

IMPORTANT The CDI control unit uses this pressure information to protect the turbocharger and engine.

Input and output signals

Direct output signals

Function

The exhaust back pressure operates over a metallic separating membrane with a tappet on the sensor membrane on which pressure dependent resistors are mounted. A change in resistance occurs due to deflection of the membrane which causes a voltage from which the CDI control unit deduces the prevailing exhaust back pressure.
