The following notes and observance of WIS documents (e.g. repair instructions) are important for avoiding errors.
Work on all common rail components always requires:
- Exceptional cleanliness
- Careful operation
- Thorough checks
System features
- System pressure is reduced after 30 s.
- Fuel system has independent ventilation.
Operation
- Do not bend high-pressure line or install it under stress.
- Replace seals and stretch bolts.
- Tightening torque to be strictly adhered to.
Tests
- Perform engine test run → Check system for leakage.
- Check leak oil lines by hand for secure seating.
- Replace leaky components if all mentioned notes (tightening torque, new seals) were observed.
General:
- Stop plugs are available as a replacement part for the diesel injection system → See EPC. Repeated usage is not allowed.
- Use lint-free cleaning cloths.
Start of work:
- Carefully clean working area in engine compartment, tools and workstation.
- Lay out lint-free cleaning cloths.
Progress of work:
- Clean separation points immediately and thoroughly.
- Seal connecting points immediately with stop plugs.
- Remove stop plug immediately before installing part.
- Immediately close container for assembly auxiliary materials.
- Only use tools to loosen and tighten fasteners and high-pressure lines. All other assembly or disassembly procedures must be performed by hand and without an aid.
End of job:
- Close off removed parts with plugs.
- Clean mounting location.
