The Audio/COMAND control panel is located on the center console.
Tasks
The Audio/COMAND control panel is the central control for the telematics functions. The Audio/COMAND control panel can be used to operate the functions that can be displayed on the Audio/COMAND display. In the process, the Audio/COMAND control panel performs the following tasks individually:
- Receiving signals
- Sending signals
The volume adjustment button can be turned (up or down) to alter the volume and it can be muted by pressing the audio source.
Receiving signals
The Audio/COMAND control panel receives the following signals:
- Circuit 30g and circuit 31 over a direct line
- Control signals of telephone keypad via telephone keypad LIN (LIN A2)
- CAN messages over telematics CAN (CAN A)

The CAN messages from the touchpad are looped through by the Audio/COMAND control panel.
Sending signals
The Audio/COMAND control panel sends the following signals:
- Circuit 30g and circuit 31 over direct line to telephone keypad
- Inherent control signals and control signals of telephone keypad over the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)

Variants
An ECO start/stop function button is not installed in model 222.004/104/057/157.
On vehicles with code 487 (Active Body Control (ABC)) the Comfort/Sport button also bears the inscription "ABC".
