Gasoline injection and ignition system with DI, general
The gasoline injection and ignition system with direct injection, in electrical combination with the sensors and actuators of engine 276.8 "DEH LA", forms the engine management "MED 17.7.3".
The short designation "DEH LA" stands for:
- D = Direct
- E = (Einspritzung) injection
- H = homogenous injection operation
- LA =(Aufladung) charging
The short designation MED 17.7.3 means:
- M = Motronic
- E = Electronic accelerator
- D = Direct injection
- 17.7.3 = Version 17.7.3
The whole engine management is contained in the ME-SFI control unit. Sensor data are read in directly by the engine management and indirectly via the CAN network and the respective actuators are actuated. Here the individual functions and systems of the engine management are controlled and coordinated by the ME-SFI control unit.
The engine management is subdivided into the following systems:
- Basic functions
- Engine management
- Fuel injection system
- Ignition system
- Exhaust system
Basic functions
- Control unit diagnosis
- Fault memory
- European On-Board Diagnosis
- Diagnosis via CAN
- CAN network
- Control module programming
- Transport mode
- Variant coding
- DAS stage 4 (FBS 4)
- Torque coordination
- Heat management
- Alternator interface
- Maximum vehicle speed limit
Diagnosis:
For diagnostic purposes, the fault codes of the engine management can be read out and deleted and individual diagnostic functions can be specifically actuated with a vehicle diagnosis system.
Control unit programming:
The engine management in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit is programmable, i.e. the software of the control unit can be exchanged (replaced) using a vehicle diagnosis system. The software required for control unit programming can be found on the diagnosis system software DVD.
Transport mode:
In transport mode various functions of the engine management are limited.
If the vehicle's kilometer reading is more than 250 km, the "transport mode" system status is deactivated automatically and cannot be reactivated anymore using the vehicle diagnosis system.
Variant coding:
The vehicle model, national version, exhaust variant and transmission version, for example, can be coded with the variant coding.

Noise optimization of the exhaust system
There are exhaust flaps installed exhaust tailpipes to optimize the exhaust noise behavior.
The exhaust gas flaps are actuated in a load-dependent manner and electropneumatically via a characteristics map of the respective drive program by the exhaust gas flap switchover valve.
