Front axle propeller shaft to front axle transmission
Front axle transmission output 4MATIC in general
A propeller shaft (5) is used for torque transmission from the front axle transmission output (4) of the transfer case to the front axle transmission. The transmission-end universal joint (3) of the propeller shaft (5) is integrated into the driven gear (2) of the front axle transmission output (4).
The propeller shaft tube is pushed onto the joint fork of the front axle transmission output (4) through drive-type splines.
Straight assembly of the universal joints (3) is necessary in order to ensure uniform transfer of rotation.
On the front axle transmission side, the propeller shaft (5) is screwed with the drive pinion of the front axle transmission via a propeller shaft flange (7).
Universal joints (3)
Generally, a universal joint (3) that runs under an angular offset generates an unequal rotary motion.
If the angles that are generated between the axles of the propeller shaft tube and the joint forks are equal and if they lie at the same level, the unequal values of both universal joints (3) are mutually offset. The power take-off speed of the propeller shaft (5) at the front axle transmission is thus equal.
