Front axle transmission output 4MATIC in general
A propeller shaft is used for torque transmission from the front axle transmission output (3) of the transfer case to the front axle transmission. The universal joint at the transmission end is integrated into the front axle transmission output (3) of the transfer case.
The propeller shaft tube is pushed onto the joint fork of the front axle transmission output (3) through drive-type splines.
A straight assembly of the universal joints to each other is required in order to guarantee a uniform transfer of the rotation.
On the front axle transmission side, the propeller shaft is fastened via a propeller shaft flange to the drive pinion of the front axle transmission.
universal joint
Generally, a universal joint that runs under an angular offset generates an unequal rotary motion.
If the angular offsets that are generated between the axles of the propeller shaft tube and the joint forks are equal and if they lie at the same level, the unequal values of both universal joints are mutually offset. The output speed of the propeller shaft to the front axle transmission is thus equal.
