Function requirements for voice control system

Voice control system

The VCS allows various telematics functions (e.g. radio, telephone, navigation) to be operated.

From model year 2018, it will also be possible to operate certain vehicle functions, such as exterior lights control, climate control, the seat heater (with code 873 (Seat heater for driver and front passenger) or code 902 (Seat heater Plus for driver and front passenger) or code 401 (Seat climate control for driver and front passenger) and the massage function (with code 432 (Left and right dynamic multicontour seat)).

The VCS is integrated in the head unit and can be activated by spelling out words or inputting whole words. The VCS is activated or deactivated via the Voice control ON and Favorites switch.

The control signal from the Voice control ON and Favorites switch is forwarded via the following components:

Steering wheel electronics →

Steering wheel CAN →

Steering column tube module control unit →

Chassis FlexRay →

Electronic ignition lock control unit →

User interface CAN →

Instrument cluster →

User interface CAN →

Head unit

Voice input takes place via the driver hands-free system microphone, which is connected via a direct line to the head unit. The head unit processes the signals internally and implements them accordingly.

IMPORTANT In order to work, the voice detection function must learn to recognize the driver's voice. If the driver's voice or the message of the voice command cannot be clearly identified, the VCS issues a query. The audio signals are generated by the head unit and output via the speaker system. The head unit directly controls the speaker system or sends unamplified signals via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (with Code 810 (Sound system)) or the advanced sound system amplifier control unit (with Code 811 (Advanced sound system)).
