Component Description For Audio/COMAND Display - GF54.30-P-6150LF
Model 217, 222
up to model year 2018
Shown model 222.0
Location
The Audio/COMAND display is installed at the top center of the instrument panel.
Tasks
The Audio/COMAND display serves the uniform presentation of user-relevant operating and information windows as well as the presentation of video picture information.
Brightness is controlled internally in the Audio/COMAND display using the integrated light sensor. Cooling is controlled internally in the Audio/COMAND display using the integrated temperature sensor.
For vehicles with code 867 (SPLITVIEW), the audio/COMAND display enables two different views to be shown at the same time. This function enables the driver and front passenger to access video picture information or vehicle system information at the same time and independently from one another (dual viewing mode).
The Audio/COMAND display receives the following signals:
- Terminal 30g and terminal 31
- Control signals (e.g. switch on) over the telematics CAN (CAN A) from the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
- Picture signals over the Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) interface from the COMAND controller unit
- Audio signals over a direct line from COMAND controller unit (with code 867 (SPLITVIEW))
The Audio/COMAND display evaluates the input factors in the integrated microprocessor, and actuates the color screen. The audio/COMAND display sends audio signals over a direct line to the headphones electrical connector (cabled) (X39/6) (with code 867 (SPLITVIEW)).
Illustration of the principle of visible areas, with code 867 (SPLITVIEW)
For vehicles with code 867 (SPLITVIEW) the design of the Audio/COMAND display means that the visual range of the driver (1) and visual range of the front passenger (2) are defined in a fixed manner, which means that the picture quality in the overlap area (3) of the visual ranges may deteriorate.
Model 217, 222
up to model year 2018
with code 867 (SPLITVIEW)
The front passenger can operate the Audio/COMAND display using the remote control (A8/7) (the signals are processed by the COMAND controller unit). A uniform picture can be output via a mono output mode.
Structure
The audio/COMAND display is a 12.3" Thin Film Transistor (TFT) color split view display. In order to prevent damage to the Audio/COMAND display, it is protected by a tinted acrylic glass lens. The audio/COMAND display is equipped with an integrated microprocessor, a light sensor and a temperature sensor.
It is not possible to swivel the Audio/COMAND display.
