Electrical Power Steering Control Unit (ES), Component Description - GF46.35-P-7010FR
Model 257, 290 up to model year 2021
Illustration shows steering gear
Location
The electrical power steering system control unit is mounted onto the steering gear.
Tasks
The electrical power steering system control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
- Transmission of requests/information
Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Suspension FlexRay (Flex E)
Direct line
The signals from the following sensors are read in via a direct line:
- Electric power steering torque sensor
Chassis FlexRay
The following signals are read in over the chassis FlexRay:
- Steering assistance torque request and wheel speeds, from the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4)
- Drivetrain ready status, engine running and engine speed from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engines) or from the CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engines) via engine CAN (CAN C) and the drivetrain control unit (N127)
- Steering wheel angle (recorded by steering wheel angle sensor (N49)) and steering angle rate of change, from steering column tube module control unit (N80))
- Requested toothed rack position, vehicle stop signal and current status of parking system control unit (N62)
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors which are read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor, the relevant components are then actuated and requests/information are output.
Actuation of components
The following component is actuated directly:
- Electric power steering actuator motor
Transmission of requests/information
The following requests/information are sent over the suspension FlexRay:
- Request for a warning message over the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and the user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster (A1)
- Steering torque, steering angle rate of change and steering assistance status to the Electronic Stability Program control unit
- Current status from electrical power steering system control unit
