Model All (CAR) with steering wheel generation 5 (Capacitive steering wheel) and code 266 (Active Steering Assist)
Location
The hand detection system control unit is located in the multifunction steering wheel itself.
Task
The hand detection system control unit is linked with the steering column tube module control unit.
The hand-detection sensor detects when the driver touches the multifunction steering wheel with their hand.
The hand detection system control unit processes the signals from the hand-detection sensor and also sends the following signals:
- Hand detection system status
- "Hands-off detection" status
Body hand-detection sensor
The hand detection sensor consists of a mat in soft foam located under the steering wheel surface in the steering wheel rim.
A touch of the multifunction steering wheel is detected by a change in the electrical capacity.
